How to Help Children Use AI Safely and Responsibly: Hrvatski Telekom and ERF Launch Free Video Tutorials for Parents

Hrvatski Telekom, in collaboration with experts from the University of Zagreb's Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation Sciences, has developed seven free video tutorials to help parents guide children and young people towards the safe and responsible use of artificial intelligence. The new series is part of the "You Can Do AI Too" national program of free educational content on artificial intelligence, offering parents expert advice in a simple, accessible, and practical format. Parents can learn how to handle everyday situations involving their children's use of AI, from assessing the reliability of AI-generated responses and encouraging independent thinking to discussing appropriate technology use and establishing clear family rules.

Across seven themed episodes, Professor Neven Ricijaš, PhD, Associate Professor Dora Dodig Hundrić, PhD, and Assistant Professor Sabina Mandić Podhraški, PhD, explain the key challenges of growing up with AI and offer advice that parents can apply in everyday family life.

Topics include AI's impact on child development, fact-checking, and emotional attachment to AI tools. Parents can learn how to encourage children to question the answers they receive, why AI cannot replace the closeness and support of real people, and how to respond to inappropriate uses of AI, such as creating fake images or cheating on schoolwork. The program also focuses on protecting personal data and setting up parental controls.

The new educational series for parents is the fourth series in the "You Can Do AI Too" program. The previous three focused on the basics of artificial intelligence, its use in learning, and the possibilities for creative expression with AI. The educational videos released so far have attracted millions of views, confirming the strong public interest in practical knowledge about AI.

The program is part of the broader AIMO! platform, through which Hrvatski Telekom promotes digital and AI literacy and empowers people to use new technologies.
