Hrvatski Telekom i ERF pokreću Program „Alati za moderno doba – AIMO! pametno koristiti AI“

  • New HT and ERF program focuses on the responsible use of artificial intelligence
  • Made for pupils in grades 6 to 8 of primary school
  • The Program covers AI literacy, critical thinking, and making responsible choices to support children's mental health

Hrvatski Telekom and the University of Zagreb's Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation Sciences (ERF) are starting the "Tools for Modern Times – AIMO! Using AI Wisely" Program, a new series of preventive workshops designed to empower primary school pupils to use artificial intelligence in an informed, critical, safe, and responsible way.

The new Program builds on the "Tools for Modern Times" preventive Program launched by Hrvatski Telekom and ERF in 2023 to promote responsible behavior among children and young people in the digital environment. As artificial intelligence becomes an increasingly integral part of children's everyday lives, this new collaboration focuses on the knowledge and socio-emotional skills they need to understand both the possibilities and the limitations of the technology they use.

The workshops will help pupils learn to use artificial intelligence responsibly. They will find out how AI works and generates content. They will also practise critical thinking by checking information, spotting mistakes or bias, and knowing when to use AI or trust their own judgment and others'.

"Artificial intelligence is already part of the world our children are growing up in, so the question is no longer whether they will use it, but how. We want to help them understand that technology can be an extremely useful tool. Still, it cannot replace their own thinking, curiosity, effort, or relationships with other people. That is why, together with our long-standing partners at ERF, we are building on what we started with 'Tools for Modern Times.' Through this new set of workshops, we aim to equip children with the practical knowledge and skills they need to use artificial intelligence safely, critically, and responsibly," said Marina Burazer, Corporate Communications Director at Hrvatski Telekom.

"This series of four additional workshops is a natural continuation of our investment in the overall well-being and mental health of higher primary school grade pupils. Our preventive Program focuses not only on digital literacy but also on empowering pupils to develop essential socio-emotional skills that have proven important when using artificial intelligence. Certain aspects of communicating with artificial intelligence can be very confusing for children, which is why it is extremely important to help them understand its benefits and potential risks at an early stage," said Professor Neven Ricijaš, PhD, project lead at the University of Zagreb's Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation Sciences (ERF).

The "Tools for Modern Times – AIMO! Using AI Wisely" Program includes four interactive 45-minute workshops for pupils in grades 6 to 8 of primary school. Trained and licensed school staff lead the workshops. Through practical examples, discussion, and collaborative activities, pupils learn how artificial intelligence works, why its responses are not always accurate or unbiased, how to recognize the boundary between communicating with AI and real human relationships, and how to use the technology safely and in a balanced way.

To bring these workshops to primary schools across Croatia, Hrvatski Telekom and ERF will organize four training sessions for school counselors and teachers by the end of 2026. These professionals will then deliver the workshops to pupils. Two training sessions are being held in Zagreb, with one each in Osijek and Split. In response to strong interest and high engagement among education professionals, this series of training sessions aims to train 164 teachers and school counselors, enabling them to share their knowledge with pupils in 85 primary schools across 17 Croatian counties.

Through the "Tools for Modern Times – AIMO! Using AI Wisely" program, Hrvatski Telekom and ERF are continuing their joint efforts to develop the knowledge and skills that help children grow up more safely and responsibly in the digital environment. The goal remains the same: to help children use technology as a tool that expands their possibilities rather than replacing their curiosity, independence, critical thinking, and relationships with others.
