HT awards the most innovative student paper in the area of ICT

Hrvatski Telekom awarded yesterday the most innovative student ICT project at the renowned International Conference on Telecommunications - ConTEL 2013, organized by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (FER) in Zagreb.

The award-winning paper "CrocodileAgent Team Activities: Solutions for Trading and Visualization in Future Energy Markets" simulates electricity market behavior and enables analysis of various impacts on the market situation. The authors are Ivo Buljević, Siniša Matetić, Tomislav Briševac and Jurica Babić, under the mentorship of Vedran Podobnik, Ph.D. Assistant Professor. HT has made it possible for the award-winning team to use ICT cloud services free of charge so that they can further develop their idea by using all cloud service advantages. The competition was opened for students enrolled in undergraduate, Master’s or Ph.D. programs. They could submit program solutions from the ICT area.

“This award is an incentive for the authors of the solution to realize their project more easily and quickly by using the most advanced cloud solutions for computer resources and team cooperation. HT is recognized by its customers as a company strongly focused on innovations and was therefore rated by them as the leader in the field of innovation in the category of large enterprises, according to the results of the recent national survey. This is why we are always ready to support such competitions“, said Goran Krajnović, Director of the Residential Product Development Department in HT and member of the jury for selection of the best student paper.

“The competition for student posters and demos of program solutions in the field of ICT was organized and sponsored by the IEEE Communications Society – Croatia Chapter. IEEE is the largest association of electrical, electronics and computer engineers in the world, and the aim of one of its sections - IEEE Communications Society - is to encourage technological innovation and excellence in the field of ICT and telecommunications. In line with this mission, our Communications Society wants to prepare students for professional challenges in the future and give them the opportunity to present their ideas and solutions to the international audience and the national industry. HT’s award for the best ICT student paper includes the following services:

  • Cloud Computer – enables fast access to virtual desktop, all stored data and applications. It is basically a computer in the cloud.

  • Cloud Server Plus – virtual server with four virtual processors, 4 GB RAM, 60 GB fast disk, Linux operating system, 50 Mbps Internet speed.

  • Cloud Exchange Mail – professional e-mail service based on Microsoft Exchange technology. It enables efficient access to e-mail, calendars, contacts and tasks.

  • Cloud Sharepoint - service which enables simple access to documents and their shared use, as well as simple and quick creation of internal web pages.


The total value is approximately HRK 26,000 (approx 3.500 euros).

ConTEL – The idea behind the International Conference on Telecommunications program is to address new scientific achievements and technologies that enable ubiquitous communications and computing as key drivers in today’s information society.

The theme of this year’s Conference is ICT Everywhere, based on which the participants present their research results through their papers. The program includes 45 papers by 163 authors from 19 countries of the world, selected on the basis of international review. ConTEL 2013 – the 12th International Conference on Telecommunications – is held in Zagreb, from 26 to 28 June 2013, and it is organized by the University of Zagreb, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (FER), with technical co-sponsorship of the international association Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), through the IEEE Croatia Section and IEEE Communications Society – Croatia Chapter.
