T-HTnagrada@msu.hr Goes to Dalibor Martinis

22.3.2013

For the sixth year in a row, the award ceremony for works submitted to this year's T-HTnagrada@MSU Contest took place on Thursday, 21 March 2013, at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb.

The sixth iteration of the contest confirmed once again that every year, this project gathers the best national modern artists, offering a representative cross-section of the current visual arts scene.

Therefore, the Jury, acting in the same composition as last year (Snježana Pintarić – Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art , Radmila Iva Janković – Curator of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Dunja Blažević – Director of the Contemporary Art Center in Sarajevo, EvelinaTurković – Art Historian and Critic, Darko Fritz – Theorist, Curator and Artist, Zlatko Kopljar – Media Artist and Bart de Baere – Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Antwerp), had by no means an easy job to pick the best works.

200 works were submitted to this year's contest, 38 of which were presented at the exhibition; artists of all generations were participating, displaying the most diverse artistic expressions – from multimedia installations, videoclips, performances, photographs to paintings and sketches.

Dalibor Martinis' 'Data Recovery' media project , which saw the artist having a conversation with himself after more than 30 years, i.e. in which the artist, in the year 2010 and in front of a TV camera of Croatia's national television HTV, is responding to his own questions posed in 1978, received the first prize for contemporary art, T-HTnagrada@msu.hr for the year 2013. The second prize was awarded to the videoclip 'Salt' by Toni Meštrović, while the third prize went to Nemanja Cvijanović for a photograph provocatively named 'Do notfuckwithsocialdemocracy!'.

The awards were purchase prizes in the following net amounts: the first prize was 50,000 HRK, the second 45,000 HRK and the third prize 40,000 HRK. The purchased works will become part of the future T-HT@MSU Exhibition. The purpose of the contest is to promote artistic work in the field of contemporary art in Croatia.
