HT and Allianz first to market with mobile device insurance

As from today, Hrvatski Telekom, the leading provider of telecommunications services, is offering a new service to its customers – mobile device insurance. This unique service on the market will cover accidental damage, outside the scope of the certificate of guarantee, for any mobile phone or tablet from HT-s portfolio. The service is intended for residential and small business customers; the insurance rates are defined by the devices' value, starting from 17 HRK per month, with an additional premium depending on the value of the device. The service was brought to customers by Hrvatski Telekom in cooperation with Allianz Insurance Company which provides mobile device insurance.

By this service, HT in cooperation with Allianz, offers insurance of mobile devices against the most frequent risks, e.g. accidental damage, such as:

  • physical damage up to total destruction of the device; covering damage when the device got dropped, liquid damage including snow, impact of other objects or persons and the like;

  • burglary, premises theft and outside robbery;

  • costs of unauthorized use of the device (calls and data traffic) after the theft of the device;

  • faults of the mobile device that occur after expiry of the guarantee period.

If something undesirable and unplanned happens to their devices, HT will, by this service, offer its customers fast repair and relief from financial strain. As far as our experience goes, the majority of damages on mobile devices occurs during the first year of use. By this offer, HT is bringing once again global trends to our market, thus proving its orientation towards innovation" said Nataša Rapaić, Operating Director of HT's Residential Marketing Sector.

Thanks to the mobile device insurance service, residential and small business customers of Hrvatski Telekom can from now on use their mobile devices without fear of substantial unplanned costs. For instance, replacement of a touch screen can incur one-time costs of up to 1.500 HRK.

"Although Croatia takes a top position in Europe by the number of mobile devices per person, mobile device insurance is still not part of the standard service. We are pleased to be the first on the market to introduce this kind of insurance, as developed on the basis of experience gathered by Allianz on other markets. In the majority of cases, even 80 per cent, damage to mobile phones is caused by dropping the device, including screen damage; 15 per cent are liquid damage, 3 per cent are faults in electronics 2 percent are burglaries and robberies. From now on, HT customers can insure their mobile phones and tablets against such risks", said Vesna Sanjković, Manager of the Non-life Insurance Sector at Allianz.

The device can be insured without entering into a fixed-term contract; the customer just has to pick one of the T-Mobile postpaid tariff models. The insurance premium is included in the tariff model, at no additional charge, for users of the EXTRA total+ XXL and EXTRA Biz total+ XXL tariff models.

The device will be insured at purchase of a new device in the T-Center, for a period up to 24 months; the customer can at any time cancel the insurance premium with no penalties charged.

Assessment and repair is within the responsibility of the expert and authorized repair centers.
