The Sustainability Report 2011 was presented today at the headquarters of Hrvatski Telekom in Zagreb. The Report was prepared by applying the guidelines of the international organization Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), and it was audited by the audit company PricewaterhouseCoopers, after which the reporting level was confirmed by the global issuer of the guidelines itself.
The Report was presented by Ivica Mudrinić, President of the Management Board and CEO of HT, Maja Weber, Director of the Public Relations Department, and Ružica Gajić, Environmental Protection Manager. D.Sc. Mislav Ante Omazić , Assistant Professor and head of the Corporate Social Responsibility course at the Faculty of Economics in Zagreb, talked about the importance of reporting according to global guidelines, and Tamara Mačašović, Director of Audit Department in PricewaterhouseCoopers, talked about the importance of data audit.
“This publication is a step forward toward more comprehensive corporate social responsibility reporting. Besides, we are proud that this publication is, to our knowledge, the first sustainability report in Croatia to be audited by an audit company and whose level was additionally confirmed by the global issuer of the guidelines itself”, said Maja Weber, Director of the Public Relations Department.
The Sustainability Report 2011 is the result of work of the Corporate Responsibility Team of Hrvatski Telekom consisting of ten members and coordinated by the Public Relations Department. The content of the Report, which meets the very precise requirements of the GRI Guidelines for Sustainability Reporting, is elaborated in the following chapters: About the report, Strategy and management, Impact in the community, Customer care, Workplace, Cooperation with suppliers, Impact on the environment and Key indicators and objectives.
This year, the GRI Guidelines, namely the G3.1 version from March 2012, has been used by HT for the first time. By this Report, HT has met its annual obligation of reporting on progress as a member of Global Compact and has fully met its obligation to switch to more comprehensive and higher reporting requirements, which is confirmed by the conclusion issued by GRI stating that the conditions for confirming B+ level have been met.
GRI is a non-profit organization that promotes sustainable global economy by providing detailed sustainability reporting guidance which is constantly expanded. The system is designed so that a company opts for one of the three levels after it has assessed the current degree of development in the continuity of sustainable development. Hrvatski Telekom opted for the B level, the second of the three possible levels, based on self-assessment, before it started compiling the Report. In 2011, 2293 companies compiled reports according to the GRI Guidelines on the global level, with 681 companies confirming the declared level in the same period.
The report on progress according to the principles of Global Compact has been HT's annual obligation since 2007, when the Company became member of this strategic initiative for businesses committed to aligning their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted GC principles in the areas of human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption.
The rapid acceptance of the sustainability concept in the business world on the global level is reflected in the fact that Global Compact has more than 8700 members from 130 countries.
Hrvatski Telekom has chosen to provide reports according to the GRI Guidelines every two years, whereas it has the obligation to report on progress according to Global Compact on a yearly basis.
The process of reporting on implementation of the sustainability concept makes it possible for companies as change participants, by establishing the status of sustainability concept implementation and by planning and implementing changes, to facilitate progress of technology, markets, business activities and finance in ways that contribute to the highest quality coexistence of the economy, community and environment.
