The value of the ecological project “Preservation of Habitat of Endangered Species” amounts to a half million Croatian Kunas and the T-Croatian Telecom employees will support it with their voluntary work.

Today, the project of “Preservation of Habitat of Endangered Species” has been presented in the T-Croatian Telecom headquarters by Mr. Ivica Mudrinić, President of Management Board of Hrvatske telekomunikacije and Mr. Davorin Marković, Head of the State Institute for Nature Protection. As the donor, T-HT carried out this project in cooperation with the State Institute for Nature Protection in order to protect one endangered swamp habitat in each of four business regions of T-HT and in this way help the survival of animal and plant species which live there. All T-HT employees will be able to join this action of preservation of Croatian biological diversity as volunteers.
Fully aware of the significance of biologic and hydrologic functions of swamp habitats as well as the need to harmonize the development of human activities and the nature protection in general, T-HT wanted to give its own contribution to their preservation. Therefore, within this project, there will be various activities of habitat preservation and promotion of natural values at four sites: the Odra plain, the Iva pasture, the Trstenik moor and the Vrljica river. These four areas belong to the network of ecologically significant areas of the Republic of Croatia due to their exceptional natural values.
Removal of underwood from the abandoned meadows of the Odra plain will enable the haymakers to nest there once again. Cleaning of the Iva pastures along the Sava river will revive the feeding places of white-tailed eagles and lesser spotted eagles as well as black storks, while restoration of draw-well sweeps will enable the cattle to graze there once again. Cleaning of the unique elevated moor at Trstenik will enable the protection of Eriophorum vaginatum, the plant growing in Croatia only at this spot. Radio telemetric monitoring of Adriatic trout along the Vrljika river will provide new discoveries about the ecological features of this endemic species of Adriatic confluence which will, in turn, enable its efficient protection.
Apart from being storages of biological and genetic diversity as well as habitats of numerous industrial plants animal species, the swamps also provide the possibility for development of tourism and recreation and have a cultural value.
“We are glad that we continue to invest into ecology since caring for nature is an inseparable part of caring for the community, today and tomorrow. Preserving the high level of biological diversity which Croatia is endowed with, is not only the task, but also the pleasure of such a successful company as T-Hrvatski Telekom” said Ivica Mudrinić, President of the Management Board of T-Hrvatski Telekom.
“ I wish to express our thanks to T-HT for recognizing the value of nature protection and selecting the State Institute for Nature Protection as this year’s partner. Swamp habitats are among the most endangered habitats all around the world, including Croatia. The need to preserve them, especially today when the climatic changes are obvious and additionally threaten their survival, is one of the priorities of preservation of biological diversity and consequently, the future life on Earth” said Davorin Marković, Head of State Institute for Nature Protection.
This year’s investment into an ecological project is one step further along the path which T-HT started last year with the afforestation project entitled “Green Communication”. Just like the last year, the T-HT employees will be able to join the activity which is, within this project, planned in their area.
