T-HT Granted HRK 1,250,000 for Scientific and Educational Projects

18.6.2008

Today T-Hrvatski Telekom has presented the results of the grant awarding competition "Together We Are Stronger". For the third successive year the employees of T-HT have played a key role in the competition. They proposed different projects in the area of science and education. Out of 230 received applications from all over Croatia, 25 projects were selected and granted financial funds in a total amount of HRK 1,250,000. This unique competition lasted from 9 to 30 May 2008 and its goal is to provide support to regional projects which deserve social acknowledgement and support with their realization.

"We are very proud to continue with, now I may already say, the tradition of conducting this competition, the aim of which is to provide support to regional projects. The very title of the competition, "Together We Are Stronger", tells about its nature and invites all employees of this Company to become engaged by proposing projects from the local communities in which they live and work and, thus, allocate grants to where they think these funds are most needed. Apart from the afore-mentioned, this project is directed towards two very important areas, science and education in Croatia. I am sure that this way we have covered and supported major projects in certain regions, but also smaller, valuable projects "from the neighborhood”. By doing so, once again we have shown how powerful the strength of togetherness is and how much good such togetherness can do for the society in which the Company operates. And that contribution to the community is what matters to us," said Mr. Ivica Mudrinić, President of the Management Board and CEO of T-Hrvatski Telekom, at the press conference.

A Committee decided on the granting of financial funds. In the first place, the Committee made sure that the projects and the activities implemented through the projects were relevant for further development and strengthening of science and education in the regions, that they were of permanent value and significant in the social sense, and that they included as many users as possible in the regions, either directly or indirectly. This year the majority of applied projects covers a really wide and great range of activities – from equipping of libraries, procurement of computer technologies, assistance with the organization of educational workshops for children, to scientific and expert meetings, different scientific researches and projects related to flora and fauna conservation. The employees of T-HT participated with joy in the proposal of projects. They invested much effort in it, which the diversity of the applied projects clearly showed.

Among other things, grants were given to the Electromechanical School from Varaždin for the procurement of IT equipment for blind and partially sighted persons, to the Ruđer Bošković Institute from Zagreb for the procurement of research equipment and consumables for a scientific research within the project "Micro-Biophotonics of Cytoskeleton", and to the Faculty of Arts of the Zagreb University for the establishment of the Croatian Research Data Archives in the area of the humanities. Financial grants were awarded to the Bedekovčina Association of Disabled Persons for the program of computer education of children with developmental difficulties, the Faculty of Business Administration from Zagreb for the program Alfa Group for the Procurement of Literature and IT Equipment, and to the Petrinja Association for the Promotion of Informatics, Culture and Co-Life for the implementation of the program of free of charge IT equipment. MedILS – Mediterranean Institute for Life Sciences received a financial grant for a scientific and research project, within which children would spend their summer holidays studying science. The Juraj Dobrila University from Pula received support for a research project in the area of micro-financing and growth models, i.e. for the procurement of the necessary IT equipment and literature, while the "Baldakin" Association received funds for the realization of activities aiming at work with young people and broadening of knowledge in relation to information systems and new technologies. Financial support was also provided to FESB from Split for an educational and scientific conference on software telecommunications and computer networks, and to a number of valuable regional projects.

Following a series of socially responsible activities, with the "Together We Are Stronger" competition T-HT continues showing its status of a socially responsible company sensitized to relevant social issues and needs, which the Company plans to do also in the future.
