ISO 14001 Certificate

In June 2010, Croatian Telecom got ISO 14001 certified for environmental management.

ISO 14001 is an internationally accepted environmental management standard, aiming to subdue, reduce or fully avoid environmental impacts. T-Mobile, the part of the T-HT Group dealing with mobile communications, has already been ISO 14001 certified back in 2002.

HT has also gained the prestigious Environmental Certificate of the biggest international association of certifiers , the IQNet (International Quality Network).

In the course of 2009, a project was launched within the Deutsche Telekom Group for implementation of a joint ISO 14001 Environmental Management Certificate in order to increase transparency, to harmonize criteria for a unified approach to customers, citizens and certifiers. In June of 2009, T-Mobile was integrated into the joint certificate, being among the first within the DT Group, while Croatian Telecom followed in 2010.

Environmental Policy:

  • We accept social responsibility for environmental protection, and our thoughts and actions are geared towards sustainable society in the interest of future generations.
  • We attach a high priority to environmental protection. The Management Board is directly responsible for establishment and implementation of the the Company's Environmental Policy. We employ a modern Environmental Management System to ensure efficiency in implementation of our Environmental Policy.
  • We take a proactive approach to environmental protection. We deem the legal provisions to be minimum requirements which we often exceed by far.
  • We are constantly working on the improvement of environmental protection in our national and international Group units. Our procurement policy is geared towards the goals of environmental protection. These goals also influence our behavior towards contractual parties.
  • We strive to find solutions for our products and services which will save energy and natural resources.
  • We actively involve our employees in our environmental protection measures.
  • We inform the general public and interested parties, promoting a constructive dialogue.

We apply environmental protection principles in our everyday work:

  • Continuous care about waste and proper waste disposal
  • Disposal of old mobile handsets – In accordance with our ecological commitment, but also as a reaction to customer requests, T-Mobile Croatia was the first company in Croatia to start organized collecting and disposal of old mobile handsets, long before such action became prescribed by law. The first action of this kind was organized back in 2005, and until today, more than 100,000 old mobile handsets were disposed of in an eco-friendly way.

Waste paper – Croatian Telecom is continuously taking care of proper sorting and collection of all kinds of waste, including paper, for further processing and reutilization. This way we preserve forests, reduce water and air pollution and economize on expensive dumping ground. With each ton of paper collected, we have saved 20 saplings.

  • Participation in ECO campaigns and events
  • Croatian Telecom is an active participant and sponsor of numerous ECO events and projects such as the ‘Afforestation of Burnt Areas’ Project , the ‘Earth Hour’ Initiative, the ‘Preservation of Endangered Species’ Habitats’ Project and others.

  • Motivating to use and using alternative energy and fuel sources
  • Croatian Telecom’s car fleet has been renewed by gas-powered vehicles. As many as 220 CNG cars have been procured , which is one of the excellent examples of the Company’s responsible and ecological operation. Fleet renewal and procurement of official CNG cars are a big step forward in improving quality and efficiency, and in reduction of detrimental effects on the environment.
