Croatian Telecom Inc. was founded through the separation of HPT - Croatian Post and Telecommunications in compliance with the "Law on Separation of Hrvatska pošta i telekomunikacije into Hrvatska pošta and Hrvatske telekomunikacije" (Official Gazette 101/1998). On 1 January 1999 Croatian Telecom Inc. started with its work as a joint stock company fully owned by the Republic of Croatia.
The share capital of the Company amounts to HRK 8,188,853,500.00 and is divided into 81,888,535 ordinary registered shares with nominal value of HRK 100.00.
Pursuant to the Act on Privatization of Hrvatske telekomunikacije d.d. (Official Gazette 65/1999), on 6 October 1999 the Government of the Republic of Croatia sold 35% of shares to a strategic investor - Deutsche Telekom AG.
On 17 October 2001 the Government of the Republic of Croatia and Deutsche Telekom AG signed a contract on the sale of 16% of shares of Croatian Telecom Inc. owned by the Republic of Croatia to Deutsche Telekom. Pursuant to the stated Contract, on 25 October 2001 another 16% of Croatian Telecom Inc. shares were transferred to Deutsche Telekom AG, which then became the owner of 51% of shares.
Out of the group of previous public companies Croatian Telecom Inc. became the first company which was transformed from state ownership into private ownership. Through further strategic privatization Croatian Telecom Inc. has become an integral part of DT Group, leading international group in telecommunications industry.
The rest of the HT – Hrvatske telekomunikacije d.d. shares were property of the Government of the Republic of Croatia (42%) and the Croatian War Veteran’s Fund (7%). On the 24th September 2007 the Government decided to sell a 32,5% share package, 25% of which with priority reserved for Croatian citizens. The rest of 7,5% of shares was distributed to institutional investors.
The 5th October 2007 was the opening day for trading in 32,5% of T-Hrvatski Telekom shares at London and Zagreb Stock Exchanges.
Following the sale of shares to present and former employees of T-Hrvatski Telekom and Croatian Post in June 2008, the Government of the Republic of Croatia reduced its holding from 9.5% to 3.5%, while private and institutional investors hold 38.5%.
